Desert Camping, Northern Peru

Tuesday, November 25, 2008
Filed Under:
We discovered a dirt road that headed eastwards from the coast into the desert, so we followed our noses and were soon surrounded by gorgeous desert scenery.  The road very quickly deteriorated into a dry river bed that got progressively narrower and narrower as we continued along the way.

It took about 2.5 hours to cross the Belize border. All the border officials were really friendly, and it was great to hear English for the first time in over a month.  Vehicle insurance is mandatory in Belize, and we were easily able to purchase the necessary insurance at the border. We’ve just been watching a very cute hermit crab for the last half hour or so. He was very shy and it took him forever to come out of his shell. Lucky for him, we returned him to the ocean .. unlike the other crabs that we caught yesterday afternoon – let’s just say we […]

Volcan Purace, Colombia

Tuesday, September 30, 2008
Filed Under:
After setting off early, and a long day of driving, we had made alot more progress than we had hoped (thanks to the presence of some good toll roads), and so we decided to head 45km southeast of the town of Popayan to a national park with a volcano (Volcan Purace) for the night.

Zorritos, Northern Peru

Sunday, November 23, 2008
Filed Under:
We spent about 5 days camping on the north coast of Peru on a gorgeous sandy beach.  This is the last location where we will find relatively warm ocean on this trip.  Further south there is a different ocean current that prevails, yielding much colder water temperatures.
