We spent a very relaxing and enjoyable Christmas camping in a National Park at a remote lake close to the Chile border. We didn’t have any expectations for Christmas, so when we found ourselves at this gorgeous lake a few days before christmas, we decided to stay … despite the lack of communications to the outside world over the holidays!
We’re currently in Chile. We completed our final border crossing on New Year’s Day, and as it turned out … it was one of the more difficult crossings we have had to complete! New Year’s eve was a great evening with an Argentinian family who invited us to join in the celebrations at their campsite. And what a celebration it was!
Along with the New Year comes alot of new directions for us. We will be starting a new chapter of our lives when we return home in alot of different regards. We are looking forward to it, and are having constant thoughts of home right now. We are a bit tired of the constant travelling at the moment and are, admittedly, missing our friends, family, and our JOBS (!) right now! Our new direction at the moment is clear: NORTHWARD! We have hit the southernmost leg of our journey, and are heading homeward! North to Santiago where we will arrange our vehicle shipping, and book our flights back home. We’re not looking forward to the winter weather at home, but we are looking forward to some stability!
Hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Year! Looking forward to catching up with everyone when we get back home!
We have found our way to Northern Argentina. Internet (and paved roads, for that matter), are somewhat few and far between, so we are a bit behind in our website updates. This wordy post with lack of pics will have to suffice (for now) as a summary of the past few weeks!
We’ve had a wonderful, exhilirating, and exhausting few weeks! After leaving Peru behind (at long last …), we found ourselves in the heart of Bolivia … or so it felt! A brief stomach bug (Raenelle), some new tires on the truck (a long story), and we jetted off to the Amazonian basin … leaving our truck and dog with a total stranger for 4 days (shudder!). The Amazon trip was amazing … truly amazing … and we met some wonderful people along the way.
Back in La Paz (with truck and dog in tow … phew!), we headed to southwestern Bolivia to the salt flats. We managed to get ourselves very, very, stuck in the salt flats … to the point where we thought we may have to leave the New Cruiser in Bolivia forever. Alot of luck, a few dollars, and some assistance from some locals, and we were on our way again (phew!).
We’re now in Argentina … it’s a breathe of fresh air after the past few months. Food, people and scenery are great so far. We are running short of time. We’re hoping to see some of Patagonia, but it’s a helluva long way from here. We will follow our nose south as far as we want, as quickly/slowly as we want, and then turn northwards. Destination: Santiago, Chile. Hopefully we can secure a shipping company to send our truck back home! Fingers crossed … it’s going to be a hell of a ride. Love to All, R&R.
Well, we have successfully navigated our way to Bolivia! Our visit to this country will be very brief, but we´re looking forward to exploring the salt flats in the southwestern part of the country. I´ve been sick with a stomach bug for the past 3 days, and am feeling the effects of the high altitude a bit. Robin continues to feel no effects, as does Loca! We are getting tired, and are looking forward to getting back home so that we can rest!
We´ll be updating the site in the next little while with Peru photos and information. Stay tuned!
It´s been a while since you´ve heard from us, but rest assured, we are safe & sound, and as of a couple of days ago, we have found ourselves in Northern Peru on a beautiful sandy, sunny, deserted beach! Lack of internet speed seems to be directly proportional to latitude! We´ll be posting our Ecuador experiences soon, along with photos. Also … keep checking back for new photos in the current photo album, as you won´t be automatically notified when we add new photos!
We are still enjoying this beautiful country that is Colombia, and are slowly heading towards the Ecuador border. We spent the past couple of nights camping and exploring a spectacular high-altitude national park. We`ve also had our first `bout of food poisoning on this trip about 5 days ago. Note to self: do not eat in semi-fancy overpriced restaurant ever again!
