The travels of an all aluminum Land Cruiser and its owners…

I’m ready to GO already…

Written by Robin on Sunday, July 22, 2007

It’s been nearly 4 years since our last substantial trip. We’ve gone on little diddy’s here and there, hey – we even made it Baja for 6 weeks over Christmas in 2005.

Look. We graduated university April 2003. We were saddled with debt, unbelievable student loans. But now, 4 years later, no kids, no house, and, NO DEBT. Check out Douglas and Stephanie Hackney’s site on how to take a year off. Point number 2 – get out of debt.

So here we are, free to do what we like, and I’m feeling ready. But am I?

We’ve got great jobs, and we live in one of the greatest city’s in the world. Picking up and leaving means taking all the money we’ve saved and spending it. We won’t end up owing, but we won’t have anything either. I mean nothing except an overweight chunk of aluminum and steel – and we’re not getting any younger. Kids? I’d love them – now would be fine. House? In this city it’s not that easy, starting at $600 thousand it’s a big commitment.

All those things are about settling down, putting away RRSPs, climbing the work ladder, oh it’s making me tired thinking about it.

I’m 33 now. I’m afraid it’s time to start packing…

…stay tuned.

I hear you – you know you always have time to climb that corporate ladder…..It will always be there.

However, taking the opportunities to get out and try the unconventional things like extended trips may not always be as easy as they are now.

You have my support and encouragement to pack it up and live life!

Love your Cruiser. Amazed at all the time and commitment you put into it.

Wish I could take an extended trip like you guys did. Great story.

Good luck on whatever path you choose.
