Stuck in Mazatlan : Aug 3–4

We spent the whole day driving and made good progress (just less than 1,000km) making it to Mazatlan at nightfall. We found a cheap hotel and took a long walk along the beachfront. A dinner of tacos & quesadillas, together with some refreshing Aqua Arroz (Rice Water) and we were soon back in our room fast asleep (despite the heat and lack of air conditioning) in anticipation for another long driving day the next day.

Mazatlan hotelBut, alas, the cosmos had other plans for us. In the morning before leaving, Robin did a check around the truck (fluids, battery charge levels, etc.) and discovered that we had a fuel leak coming either from the fuel tank or from the fuel filler pipe. We couldn’t go any further until it was repaired, so we were forced to stay another day to repair the truck.

We went for a swim in the warm ocean after the truck work, and booked into a decent hotel (in the old part of Mazatlan) overlooking the ocean. A couple of margaritas later, a stroll on the oceanfront, some delicious food from some small food stands on the beachfront and we were good as new! If you’re going to ‘break down’ somewhere, I highly recommend breaking down in Mazatlan … it’s not a bad place to spend a couple of days … as long as you stay away from the touristy hotel zone!

Sounds like you guys are having a good time. My wife and I were down there a time ago and stayed at Torres Mazatlan (North Beach area).

Good luck in your travels!
I look forward to your next post.
