Mexico at last … – Jul 30

Written by Raenelle on Wednesday, August 13, 2008

We have finally made it to Mexico! After a final morning coffee with Mirea and Josh, we headed south in pursuit of some cooler weather (haha – wishful thinking), and the ocean! We soon found ourselves in the heart of Nogales, a typical border town, with the hubbub of crazy traffic, people, and what we perceive to be somewhat organized chaos! We managed to navigate ourselves to the nearest bank, withdraw some cash, fill up with fuel, and get out of the city without any mishaps.

SonoraThe long stretch of divided highway to the agricultural centre of Hermosillo was uneventful … with the exception that we discovered that our auxillary battery system was not charging as it should. Hmm … As Hermosillo was a large city with ample resources (and we weren’t sure how many days we would be in more remote small towns), we decided to troubleshoot the problem while we had access to numerous mechanical, electrical, and hardware stores at our fingertips. And so, it was decided, Hermosillo would be our home for the night.

As it turned out, we were able to figure out the auxillary battery system, and get to a hotel just after dark. A dinner consisting of awesome beef tacos with a sweet rice drink at a local taco stand left us well satiated, and before we knew it, we were fast asleep in what must have been the quietest hotel in Mexico!
