We headed into Mexico in the late morning – see our next post to read about our border crossing experience. After messing around in the large border town, Tijuana, for a few hours (mostly trying to find a bank at which to cash traveller’s cheques – we were unsucessful by the way, since the foreign exchange closes as noon at all banks in Mexico), we drove south for a few hours following the “free road” (as opposed to the toll highway) along the ocean, and later through mountains in the interior. We left the paved road and headed west on a gravel road to a small … very small fishing village (really just a bunch of houses) where we camped high above the village overlooking the ocean below. It was dark by the time we arrived, and it was so windy that we couldn’t sleep a wink, and eventually had to get up and move the truck at 2am to find a less windy spot!
