In the morning, we went to the town of Chichicastenango for their huge Sunday market. The market was a Edwardo & Dahliatraditional indian market with lots of different stalls selling textiles, masks, clothing, food and carved handicrafts. We spent a few hours walking around the market and then made our way to Panajachel – a small town on the edge of Lago de Atitlan. We spent our time in Panajachel roaming the main street, shopping around and bargaining for some handicrafts. We stopped at a little roadside stand for some cocoa and dessert in the evening – amazing homemade pies of all flavours! While sitting at the roadside stand in the street, we met Edwardo and Dahlia who were visiting Guatemala on holiday from El Salvador. We had a wonderful evening with them and headed down to the Sunset Bar overlooking the lake for drinks and good conversation until late in the evening. The following day we spent a bunch of time making phone calls and faxes etc. dealing with stuff back home in Canada. We also managed to spend more time browsing the markets and talking to local women and children.
