We arrived in Las Vegas after dark, and we went straight to the strip to check out what was happening in town. After walking around for a couple of hours, we started searching for a cheap hotel. And we searched and searched and searched. Unfortunately, we had arrived in town on a weekend (Friday), and all the prices were pretty high. We were still surprised that we couldn’t find anything less than about $100 US, because we had heard that Vegas had cheap hotels! Then we discovered that there was a big conference in town and that alot of the hotels were fully booked and all the prices were inflated for the weekend! Great timing for us! We drove back along the highway for about 15 minutes to a nearby little town, Boulder City, and found a motel within our budget! In the morning we went to Hoover Dam where we spent a few hours walking around the site and learning about the dam. It was all rather interesting, and very impressive to see. In the early afternoon, we headed back to Vegas to the strip and tried our luck at getting tickets to the Cirque du Soleil show, Mystere. We managed to get a couple of tickets for the 10.30pm show, although the seats were way up in the back row. Nevertheless, we counted ourselves lucky and headed off to check out some casinos. We checked out a couple of hotels and casinos, got lost in the huge Caesar’s Palace for about an hour, and then headed off to the Flamingo for a dinner buffet. Wow – we sure hit a good spot for dinner …. usually buffet food is not very impressive, but we picked a seafood buffet with crab legs, prawns, salmon, and all sorts of other delicious goodies. We ate very well, without gorging ourselves, and then made our way to Treasure Island to see the outdoor musical performance where two pirate ships fight and they sink one of the boats, and set fireworks off etc. Afterwards, we went to Circus Circus for a little circus entertainment before heading back to Treasure Island to watch Mystere.

We arrived about 20 minutes before the show was set to start, and we checked at the ticket desk to see whether we could trade our tickets for better seats (due to cancellation). Well – let’s just say that it was definitely our lucky day. We traded our tickets for the best seats in the house!! We were right at centre stage about 7 rows back, with a great view of everything! We were stunned at our luck, and were entertained and wowed for the next two hours with what we saw before us!
