We started chatting to a young indigenous man, Clever, on a park bench in the Otavalo plaza. Before we knew it, he had invited us to his small nearby town (San Roque) to stay overnight with him.

Northern Peru

Otavalo Market, Ecuador
We hit the road early, and found ourselves in the moderately small highland town of Otavalo by about 8am. By the time we arrived, the market was already in full swing with vendors and people everywhere.

After a long day of driving through the gorgeous scenery of southern Colombia, and a stopoff at the impressive Sanctuario Las Lajas, we decided to head for the Ecuador border despite it being very late in the day.
