A Message From Home…
My dear Humans, I am beginning to suspect that I might not see you again. First I was here, but then you were too, and then we were all there again, and then we were here again and you were too, but now you are not, and I am a bit puzzled. Unfortunately my partner [...]
A Visit with Friends Tuscon, Arizona : Jul 27–29
After relaxing all day at the pool with friends at the resort (and getting slightly sunburnt), we took Mirea and Josh up on their offer to stay with them and spend some time visiting with them in Tuscon.
Bahia Kino : Jul 31-Aug 2
Our aim was to spend a couple of days on the beach relaxing because we have many long days of driving through Mexico (and beyond) ahead of us. We happened across a wonderful little hotel across the road from the beach. Our room was like a small bachelor apartment – with kitchen complete with fridge, [...]
Completing the Loop
This past weekend I completed a loop – a long one, a 15 year old one. And it happened by pure luck, and pure chance. This is a long post, and if you already know what I’m talking about, you really need to read on. If you don’t, then get some coffee and enjoy the [...]
Desert Wanderings – Jul 31
After running some errands in Hermosillo (which included figuring out how to make international phone calls from a payphone, and a few trips to hardware/electrical stores), we headed west with the aim of reaching the ocean (Sea of Cortez) and some cooler temperatures.
Giving Pictures, El Salvador
Douglas and Stephanie Hackney started a really great program they’ve called Giving Pictures – you can read about it here. We think it is such a great idea that we’ve decided to do somethig similar!
In Southern Mexico …
We´re in the city of Oaxaca in southern Mexico, and are a couple of days from the Guatemala border.
Mexico at last … – Jul 30
We have finally made it to Mexico! After a final morning coffee with Mirea and Josh, we headed south in pursuit of some cooler weather (haha – wishful thinking), and the ocean!
Near Mexico’s second largest city, Guadalajara – Aug 5
We awoke to a thunder, lightening, rain and wind outside our window. The ocean was fairly rough, but there was a group of boys boogie-boarding, so we thought we would join them for a dip in the ocean.
New Photos!
We’ve uploaded a bunch of new photos to the site! Enjoy! We’re flying to Colombia tonight
Oaxaca : Aug 7-9
On our way out of the small town, Tlaxcala, we were driving along the highway and did not see a large unmarked speed bump located in the middle of nowhere! We nailed it at about 70km per hour … did a minor nose-dive, and bottomed out in the rear. Oops.
Past Mexico City en route to Oaxaca – Aug 6
We awoke to the sound of church bells at the plaza, and we managed to get an early start after a somewhat restless night. Another interesting/strange dream left me feeling on-edge, and without a relaxed sleep.

Southern Mexico Turtles
After a full day of driving along beautiful windy mountain roads down to the coast from Oaxaca, we pulled into the small beach town of Puerta Arista, about 3 hours north of the Guatemala border. We headed straight to the turtle ‘camp’ that I had read about before they closed for the evening.
Stuck in Mazatlan : Aug 3–4
We spent the whole day driving and made good progress (just less than 1,000km) making it to Mazatlan at nightfall.
The trip so far …
So, finally we’ve finished the first part of the trip. It’s been 6 weeks now and we’re a little tired.
Trip Statistics: Canada to Panama
Here are some stats for our trip to date:
Video: Driving Through Mexico
We thought we’d put together a little clip for our younger friends and family. Since we filmed it our video camera has gone “missing” so this might be the last of the videos for the trip. Hope you enjoy it!
